Gaelic Song Workshop with Sìne McKenna
About the event
Students are given all the elements required to learn a Gaelic song. These include the Gaelic lyrics with pronunciation, and an English translation. In addition, they are given a detailed pronunciation guide, as well as voice files. The voice files cover the pronunciation of the lyrics as well as the sung version of the song.
Sìne animates the class with stories and anecdotes that cover various aspects of Gaelic culture in Scotland and Canada, from Second Sight to the Highland Clearances to the Gaelic voice in Canada.
You do not have to be a singer to join us for these gatherings. Please feel free to attend in order to treat yourself to the beauty of Gaelic song.
"This music somehow manages to reach into the nameless silence within our soul. It is the music of the soul for the soul. When you take time to listen to Celtic chants, you come into your own special and sacred place." - John O'Donohue
These workshops take place on most Sundays, throughout the months of October and November. Classes are limited to 12 partcipants, therefore it is important to book early. There may be a second class opening up in October, which willl be held on Thursday evenings.
